Zoe's Transformation

The book The Beckoners by Carrie Mac is a book about a teenager named Zoe and her life in a couples months in high school. Zoe is an anxious person and she hates when people tell her she can’t do something, she is like a daredevil. Zoe always has a lot on her mind, she always thinks about her mistakes and what she could've done. Zoe is a person that will try to fit in other than sticking out, she is just a bystander. She doesn't really change much except she thinks more about her actions and decisions, more often than she used to. She still just stands by and watches, she still tries to fit in. But she does change her actions, as in what type of people to surround herself with. Zoe had some toxic friends she didn’t need around her, so she got rid of them by ignoring them and telling them she doesn't want to be apart of their circle.

Zoe moves to a small town called Abbotsford, she is constantly moving and she just wants to settle down somewhere. Zoe isn't affected by this though, she just hates constantly moving on page 9 is the moving day. Only thing Zoe left behind was her dad he wasn't much of a dad because Zoe's mom said “you stupid idiot” to her dad on page 11.  Zoe mom also is struggling to keep a job so they are constantly moving, but since Zoe's mom called Zoe's dad and idiot i think he plays a role on them moving. All Zoe wanted was to finish high school but they had to leave so her mom can go to her new job.

Zoe's first day of school on page 17 changes Zoe a lot, different people and a different environment can take a toll on people she becomes more shy and quiet. Zoe met a girl named Beck , Beck's a trouble maker she skips class, smokes cigarettes, and terrorizes people. When Zoe walked into class people stared at her with “who-the-hell-is-she eyes” as the author says on page 19. Zoe's first day was definitely not what she thought , she became shy and more anxious , as the day goes she meets “the beckoners” on page 22. Zoe gets automatically sucked into the bad of her new highschool as her first day goes on. She gets associated with a gang called beckoners and she gets sucked into all their toxic traits.

Zoes change throughout this book is amazing, she changes a lot at the end. Zoe stops trying to fit in or prove a point to somebody because that's what got her into some deep stuff. She also stops herself with getting into more things with “the beckoners”, she basically cuts them off. On page 48 Zoe went through the initiation to become a beckoner. Zoe has changed for the betterment of herself. Zoe has made choices to make her environment better for herself,so she doesn't have to deal with the toxicity of others.

Zoe's change, also affected others and made them better people. Zoe's change shows people how to fix things without making things worse. She shows how to make things better when in too deep, she also shows you how to work a typical high school. Zoe's change let's people know that you shouldn't get yourself into anything you don't want any parts of. Her change also shows that trying to prove a point gets you nowhere, and don't try to fit in.
